“Making Nagano Beautiful with Green Tea.”

We carried out a tree-cutting activity to protect the grasslands at Kirigamine Highlands in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture, where visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view.

Kirigamine Highlands is academically significant and designated as a national natural monument, attracting over 2 million tourists annually. The tree-cutting activity at Kirigamine is crucial for preventing the spread of forests, which has become a serious issue due to the decline in human management practices like grazing and mowing. It also helps preserve the habitats of grassland-loving birds and insects.

Through this tree-cutting activity, we shared the importance of protecting the grasslands that support diverse alpine plant species.
