“Conservation of Native Mangrove Plants and Tidal Flat Ecosystem”

Located in the northern part of Okinawa, known as Yanbaru, the island of Yagaji is connected to the mainland by the Yagaji Bridge in Nago City. Join us in preserving the tidal flat ecosystem at Yohena Tidal Flat on Yagaji Island, where we will observe the local wildlife and work to remove the invasive Hirugidamashi plant, which is causing concern due to its softening effect on the tidal flat sediments. Before the activity, students from Okinawa Prefectural Hentona High School will share their knowledge about the creatures inhabiting the tidal flats. During the activity, you’ll have the chance to observe these unique species, with the possibility of discovering something new!
